This is a completely volunteer operation. Free radio also means "no pay." This is a great way for any person interested in a future career in radio to get their feet wet. Get used to: speaking to the public, operating a studio mixer, training your speaking voice, organizing a show, cooperating and maintaining working relationship/s in a small radio station environment, scheduling and etc.
Please note: RFM is a politically left-wing low power station. By the owner's proxy the station's views will predominately reflect civil liberties, and social progress. The owner dislikes conservative and religous ideology immensely. The owner has been called a "liberal bigot," i.e. Archie Bunker in reverse (I'm trying to soften this image). All of us are bigots to some degree. It can't be helped. This I accept. RFM fights the right.
Male or female DJ to do 1 or 2 shows per week. 1- to 3-hour music shows of a format of their own choosing. Bring your own content or use ours. Run promos, spin music, be a personality for RFM. 1 weekday night and 1 Saturday evening.
1 Female DJ to do 1 or 2 shows per week. RFM needs a woman (at least one!), a feminist would be great. 1- to 3-hour music shows of a format of their own choosing. Bring your own content or use ours. Run station promos, spin music, be a personality for RFM. 1 Weekday night and 1 Saturday evening.
Labor activist Employer Watch is a show in development. Be willing to be part of a new tool and a legally bold medium for local workers employed by the hundreds of businesses on the Monterey Peninsula.
Homeless Activist. To organize a bi-monthly 1-hour show on homelessness in our region. Emphasis on solutions, news reports nationally and locally, food, shelter, mental health and addiction treatment. Have studio guests, invite phone calls, speak from the heart, be serious. Bring the world of homelessness into the homes of listeners, please.
Music Man/Woman. One person to maintain and establish contacts with our local musicians and other audio artists. Seek out newly recorded local talent, or those wishing to record. Arrange for collection of CDs, cassette tapes, vinyl LPs. Keep records, phone numbers, addresses, contacts. Follow and report on club appearances and musical events in the area. RFM treats it's contributing artists personally - they are as much a part of RFM as the antenna that broadcasts the signal.
Gay and Lesbian activist To cooperate in production of a weekly (perhaps bi-monthly) show focusing on the 'state of the state' of gay rights issues in and around our community.  To be informative, entertaining, political.  Do interviews, have studio guests, invite call in. Report on discrimination locally.
Call the station please: 373-7988/4757 or write: Radio Free Monterey, 484 Washington St. Ste. B185, Monterey, CA, 93940
